Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) provides support services for children who are in the care of the Department of Children and Families (DCF). These children have been abused and neglected, have been in multiple foster care placements, and many have spent time in residential treatment centers or hospital care. TFC is a level of foster care that trains families to care for children who require a higher level of support, understanding and patience. Therapeutic foster parents:

  • Cater to the emotional, physical, and social needs that result from years of uncertainty.

  • Teach children social skills, assist children with working on their behavioral issues

  • Facilitate the child’s participation in therapy

  • Accept the child for who they are, including their limitations.

  • Receive 24/7 On-Call support

Each foster family is assigned a social worker who will visit them in their home and will help them to support their foster child. Our social workers:

  • Help foster families to navigate the DCF system

  • Collaborate with the many teams involved in the child’s life

  • Provide ongoing support to both the child and family
