Community Residences, Inc. established its Community
Training Program in 1990. This Program operates in the North West and
North Central Regions of the Department of Mental Retardation. At present,
the Program supports thirty-seven individuals and their caregivers within
the community.
Community Training homes can support people with
disabilities within the community in the least restrictive environment.
Individuals are given support, education and training in skills needed to
live in an apartment in a supported living arrangement.
People who have lived at home successfully with their
parents are ideal candidates for Community Training Homes as a
stepping-stone to a more independent life. The comforts of family life can
still be enjoyed by the individual while continuing to improve life skills
that will enable them to live more independently.
Our CTH Providers are warm, nurturing people who find providing a home
and guidance to a disable individual highly rewarding. They provide for
the individuals needs as well as becoming an essential member of the
individual’s Treatment Team. They participate in development of goals
and provide training to the individual in skill development and
acquisition. Routine medical care, recreation services and daily care are
provided by the Provider.
