Community Living Arrangement & Continuous Residential Support Program

The Children’s Community Living Arrangement (CLA) and Continuous Residential Support (CRS) Programs provide twenty four hour care, support, and supervision for children and young adults with a variety of behavioral and emotional needs.  In conjunction with the individual’s family and day/educational service providers, CRI provides habilitative social and recreational activities that promote increased levels of independence.  The focus of the programs is to provide a safe and structured environment that fosters personal growth while improving the quality of life through enrichment experiences.  The programs are designed to assist individuals with developing the necessary skills to function in the least restrictive environment.  Individuals are supported by a team of professionals including Direct Care Support Staff, RN/LPNs, Behavior Specialists, Occupational Therapists, and Dieticians.  The CLA/CRS Programs are either licensed by the Department of Developmental Services or are monitored by the Department on a regular basis for compliance.

In addition to the CLA/CRS programs, CRI also operates a Therapeutic Group Home licensed and monitored by the Department of Children and Families. The Therapeutic Group home model is a five bed community based program that offers intensive staffing with a high level of clinical services within the context of a home like milieu.  The program is highly structured and designed for children and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs. The high staffing ratio coupled with on site clinical and psychiatric services provides a safe therapeutic environment for at risk youth.

Children’s Day Program

The day program, operated in Newington, is designed to serve individuals with severe behavioral challenges including physical aggression, property destruction, and self-injurious behavior.  In addition to behavioral challenges, the program supports individuals with significant intellectual disability and/or pervasive developmental disorder/autism who may have deficits in both expressive and receptive language as well as various skill deficits in activities of daily living.

While the program is community based and offers a variety of community activities/experiences, vocationally based training is provided to allow the individuals to learn various skills that could lead to paid work opportunities in the future.   A higher staffing ratio allows those individuals with severe behavioral challenges to be served on site without resorting to being removed from the program.   The community component allows for all individuals attending the program to participate in various activities outside of the day program.  These activities, while recreational in nature, also include a teaching component that  allows the individuals to engage in/practice various skills.
